Since 1972, Bruce Petros has been building and repairing a variety of instruments, from guitars to pipe organs. In addition, he does repairs, restorations and set-ups for discriminating customers. Petros Guitars is an authorized repair center for the C.F. Martin Guitar Company. Bruce is currently devoting his energies to building some of the finest acoustic guitars available.

Most Petros Guitars are built with non-endangered, tonewoods for backs and sides ( the favorite among them is Black Walnut, procured from High Cliff State Park, ten miles from his shop). Walnut produces a rich, spicy, beautifully balanced tone with plenty of brightness. Petros Guitars feature Sitka Spruce tops, made from tonewood recovered from old bridge trusses and fish traps in Alaska. The wood is aged in log form for more than 30 years before being sawn into guitar tops and aged still more before assembly. This material yields a splendid sounding instrument and helps protect the environment.

Petros Guitars feature meticulously crafted pre-stress arched tops (more information is available on this subject). This time-consuming process dramatically increases the strength and stability of the top while enhancing tonal response and volume. Why aren't all guitars made this way? Quite simply because it's much too difficult, time-consuming and expensive for the big factories to consider. Why haven't you heard about it? Because the big manufacturers don't spend big advertising dollars on something they can't make profitably.
