The D-1 is the least expensive Collings guitars and also one the finest. I've had two of them myself and they were both late 90's models and this one smokes them. Like most Collings instruments, they were among the best at that time But the new ones are better and this one is special.
What players have always liked about D-1's is the great clarity and note separation in a guitar that is very resonant with great sustain. I've always thought that these were one of the best bluegrass guitars made, but I always played fingerstyle on mine. Go figure.
