The DS3 Rosewood/ Adirondack, like the DS2H, DS1 and DS1A, are some of our favorite dreadnoughts. This one has a 1 3/4" nut width. These are "big dogs" for bluegrass guitar but are still great fingerstyle guitars as well. This particular instrument a symphany orchestra for your lap.
The 12-fret configuration is a little warmer and a little sweeter than 14-fret D's, and they are frequently louder and this one is no exception. Like all Collings guitars they are ariculate, clear and loud. This instrument has a bigger, warmer, more complex bass than the wonderful Collings 14-fret D bluegrass cannons. It sings up the neck, like all Collings instruments, and when you let a note hang out there it just "shimmers". I've always thought that the 12 fret D's do everything well but especially blend well with the voice for singers. But if you happen to be playing some bluegrass and happen to be "digging in", clear a path to the door for more sensitive banjo players are going to develop a complex.
The "3" level appointments makes this great instrument simply a joy to look at and hold in your hands. This is a portable grand piano and a world class dreadnought.
