The 16 Series dreads allow you to beat the system because you get a first rate Martin guitar differing from the 18's and 28's mostly because of how the neck is attached and a little different "16" bracing system, their "Hybrid" X-bracing. The 16's have a bolt on neck like Collings, Bourgeois, Huss & Dalton and Goodall whereas the 18" and the 28's have a traditional dovetail neck. One is not inherently better than the other but they are different. Bolt on necks are structurally stiffer so they result in a sliightly brighter voice and usually a little tiny bit more volume. The D-16 Adirondack is a fabulous buy with details that are usually found on much higher priced guitars. With its innovative "Hybrid" X-bracing, Martin's 16 Series is now the favorite for players seeking great sound and good looks in a less expensive guitar.
Best of all, though, it's still a Martin and it sounds like a Martin and it doesn't hurt at all that it has a nice Adirondack top and Martin quality craftsmanship.
