This guitar just shimmers when you let it ring out and also has a loud, woody bass and great tonal and dynamic balance. Slope D's have a stronger midrange than square shouldered dreads and good ones like this one sing up the neck with brilliance, big volume, clarity, but no edginess. This one has a slightly sweet and dark, woody and articulate voice with great note separation, tremendous sustain and great bell-like brilliance up the neck. In the rosewood CJ, the sitka top gives it a mellow voice but if you dig in you get all the power you could want. A top-shelf flatpicking guitar, it also has fine balance and feel for fingerstyle.
The rosewood in this guitar looks like its an inch deep In person and its gorgeous even for a Collings, the sunburst is even better than the pictures. The burst is artfully done with a rich hint of reddish tone to the transition of the burst much like the old 1930's Gibsons.
