We have always loved the standard rosewood/sitka OOO2H for the "dig-in" fingerpicker, flatpicker and strummer. But this one is a little different because it's a OOO3 and quite elegant looking and it is "tweaked" a little for fingerstyle playing. It is lightened for fingerstyle a la many of the Collings fingerstyle OM's we sell. We also added Adirondack braces and left off the tongue brace and man 'o man is this a nice instrument.
With lightened back and sides, no tongue brace and Adirondack braces it is dynamic, easy to play and has three dimensional quality to its voice. Although it's a fine flatpicking and strumming instrument we were thinking fingerstyle when we ordered it and its a wonderful fingerstyle guitar.
Great dynamics are the playground of a great fingerstyle player and the high performance, looser feel of the action makes its dynamic qualities easy to use. It produces a high quality, complex note or chord with the lightest of touch or the heaviest attack everywhere on the fretboard. It has brilliant highs with a slightly dominant 1st and 2nd string for distinct melody lines, a rich, articulate and balanced midrange and loud, focused, rich bass that has more substance than most dreadnoughts.
