Bill Collings has been making archtop guitars since the 1980s, Collings mandolins are stellar and the I35 is another fine example of his mastery of carving tops. Acoustically, the guitar has a thick and dark tone. When you plug this guitar into a Henriksen or Vintage Sound amp, you get a warm and creamy tone that is perfect for jazz and blues.
The wood of this one is subtle and extremely beautiful with a maple top with both fiddleback and quilted grain patterns but elegant and low key. The Brazilian fingerboard is "to die for" beautiful in person and not the least bit subtle.
