The Gibson 14" pot GB-4's were made from 1918 until 1924 and many consider them the king of guitar banjos. The only other one I have had my hands on was one sold to Norman Blake who probably still loves it because his never surfaced again.
This one has a goofy tailpiece, a pretty well repaired broken headstock, a newer head and non-original tuners but its also very cheap for GB which are usually about twice as much if you can find one at all. The hardware is a little dinged up but if I bought it, I would probably leave it alone because its more of a "playing patina". The original head is also included and its in one piece but without tension on these, you don't know how servicable these old calfskin heads are (but I don't think you would want to use it, anyway).
All that disclosure aside, ....whew..., this is a very cool instrument and about as rare as they come from Gibson. It plays nice though the action is slightly high. It has a nice ragtime sound and this morning, I was playing bottleneck in open G and it was very cool and very old time bluesy. I put some fingerpicks on played "Will the circle be unbroken" and anything I did with this was impressive. You may never see another of these in you lifetime at this price or at all.
