Every now and then you get an "atypical" instrument and this new OM-1 cutaway with an Adirondack top is one of them. First of all, it's got the looks with a very lightly figured mahogany back and sides, which is what we like tonally because this figure means the tone wood is more dense and stronger but because of the moderate figure the effect is not large....just enough to darken its voice. That combined with the Adirondack top creates a dark, sweet bass and midrange and the characteristic Collings brilliance up the neck. This instrument also has lightened back and sides and a top that is voiced for fingerstyle and has pyramid bridge for greater sustain and a looser playing feel.
