This baby jumps! It's a new custom Collings D-3 with Honduran mahogany back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top. We order a fair number of these fine instruments and I don't know what it is about Collings 3 level instruments but they sound different than the 1's and 2's. It just like Bill gives them a little extra shot when he runs them through the mojo machine.
This wood combination is an awsome one and makes this guitar a world class instrument in every respect. This guitar is very loud with a powerful, articulate and harmonically complex bass, midrange like a prewar Martin and thick, meaty trebles. When I was just playing it, I also noticed that it has an especially nice, loose, high performance playing feel. The voice of this instrument just screams "Bluegrass" (I hate it when it does that...scares my dog).
