John Walker first started building instruments at the Flatiron Mandolin and Banjo Company in Bozeman Montana. He later moved to the Gibson Montana Division where he and Ren Ferguson developed the Gibson Custom Shop. John has also worked with Michael Gurian building guitar components and worked with Steve Anderson building guitars. For more information, visit

The Ruby has a woody, fundamental voice with a shimmering sustain that you can just sort of play with. One of my pals, Dean McGraw, who if you haven't heard play your life is not complete, plays with a plectrum and it's awsome in his hands, as he just revels with its great haunting sustain. I love it for "dig in" fingerstyle players like Phil Heywood (whose hands we had to pry it from the other night so he would go give his guitar lesson).
