This instrument is a mint condition 2006 DS1. The DS1 is a simple, elegant plan. 12 fret D's in general are magical instruments and the Collings version of these great classics is a cannon, but with sweetness and complexity that you don't get in a 14 fret dreadnought. 12 frets are more balanced with greater midrange and the good ones are louder, more complex and have greater sustain than a 14 fret dreadnough. A more powerful midrange makes the 12 fret D both a good strumming and fingerstyle guitar. Also, 12 fret D's don't feel any bigger than a 14 fret instrument, but they enclose more air. I admit to being a mahogany guy and a 12 fret D guy, so I routinely rant and rave about what fantastic instruments they are, but everyone seems to like these great Collings instruments. So buy this guitar and reduce your banjo player to a shivering, weeping blob when you jump on it, or charm the singer/songwriter world or flatter all the ladies with your ballads and rich accompaniment. Every one seems to love these "grand pianos" of a guitar.
