This DS Custom is a Indian Rosewood Slope D with a very high grade Adirondack spruce top and a subtle and artful old Gibson style, reddish-brown, two color sunburst. As beautiful and tasty as it looks, the real story is a great voice and feel for flatpicking and strumming that is still pretty darn good for fingerstyle. Warm, woody bass and midrange and ringing but complex highs and a very resonant, loud and clear voice are coupled with great note separation, but still with great sweetness and complexity (not easy to do). Huss and Dalton's square-shouldered D's are also world class dreadnoughts but the DS, like most round shouldered D's, have a little more midrange and pop. Hard to beat the big bass of the square-shouldered version for bluegrass but this one with its rosewood body, comes close and yet is a little nicer as an all around and singer-songwriter type guitar and more than a few fingerstyle players, including me, like these slope D's because of this balance and the bigger midrange voice.
