This is a simple but elegant looking custom OO with some of the most beautiful traditional Honduran mahogany back and sides and a German spruce top with a slightly wider and perfectly spaced grain. The guitar is voiced for fingerstyle playing. Aesthetically, the clean and simple lines coupled with an elegant master grade German top makes this instrument a rare beauty despite its simplicity.
I was able to sit out in front of it and listen to it and its identical OOO brother, played by Phil Heywood and Dean McGraw, two of the best guitar players in the world (if you haven't picked up CD's of these guys, you owe yourself a big treat). Anyway, there is no other way to say it: I was blown away by both of them.
This OO is as loud as a D-18 with "real bass," with a complex round, rich bass that is not a thumpy, percussive fundamental representation of a bass. Like most 12 frets, it has nice midrange balance, but with "thickness" and rich harmonics. Up the neck its loud, complex and bell like with an ethereal, haunting sustain. In addition, it has a nice, loose high performance feel to the action, which is dialed in for fingerstyle.
