The unique voice of the Ditson Dreadnaught has rarely been experienced over the last 80 years, but at last, this spectacular sounding and historically important guitar is once again made available from C. F. Martin & Co. While most any guitar player will instantly recognize a Dreadnought, very few have ever encountered an original 1916-1930 version, as only a handful are known, to exist.
The name Dreadnaught, commonly spelled with an "a" by Americans at the time, referred to the era's largest and most powerful battleships. The Ditson Dreadnaught 111 is patterned from a 1924 model - the predecessor to Martin's 12-Fret D-18 Dreadnought and the first Dreadnought to incorporate Martin's famous "X" bracing.
